I apologize for inundating you guys with posts. Seriously, two a day is extreme, even for me. I'm trying to make it up to you with some giveaways (and more coming!).
But I really needed a minute to post something frivolous and fun right now. My unemployment situation has gone from worse to klaxons-and-flashing-lights, with the government shutdown and the state of my case file. It's a case of extremely poor timing, and nothing I can control, but it's causing an avalanche of stress, health issues, and general spazzing out for me.
And because I can't for one more second think about any of it, here's We Want To Know Wednesday:
5.) Tell us about a time you were irrationally afraid.
1.) What is one legit fear you have?
Being raped. And I *hate* that it's a legit fear because of the statistics. But there it is- my fear of being raped led to the circumstance of my losing my virginity, and it's one of those back-of-my-mind fears that I'm sure I'll carry for the rest of my life.
(I'm sorry- that was heavy and sad. Here, have a Ferris Bueller's Day Off gif)
2.) What is one irrational fear you have?
Being eaten alive. I was swarmed by wasps when I was in my mid-20s, and the experience was traumatizing in the extreme. Anything that can hive-mind attack freaks me out- and even though wasps don't technically eat you when they bite and sting, that kind of swarming damage is terrifying for me.
(Anyone who has seen this epi of Buffy the Vampire Slayer...I had nightmares)
3.) Do you like to watch scary movies?
Hell no. My overactive imagination + suggestion of something scary + old house that makes a lot of noises + my difficult getting solid sleep = BAD
Luckily, Fedora is also too sensitive to scary movies and video games, so they're basically banned in our house. Except for fun ones, like Shaun of the Dead.
(Don't even get me started on the time I watched Signs with my family, and my brother grabbed the back of my neck at the exact moment the alien hand pops out of the pantry....I screamed. For a very, very long time)
4.) Do you do haunted houses?
I do! Or, I would, if given the opportunity. I believe in spirits, and have had many unexplainable experiences in my life. I think haunted areas are nifty in the amount of history they hold. I would probably freak out a bit, but it's a nice challenge to tamp my instincts down and explore.
The week before Fedora moved into our place (last year), I was still adjusting to the creaks and drafts of this place. I got this overwhelming, totally irrational, sense of fear. And because I'm me, I battled it by grabbing a stack of books, hunkering down in bed, and reading all night long. Because clearly, the creepy crawlies won't attack me if I'm READING.
(Irony? Among the books I grabbed was The Dark and Hollow Places, a suspenseful zombie novel)
