Who doesn't love cacao powder?
I use it for baking often (anytime chocolate cake is made!), as well as for icing or frosting, and also for making my own cocoa powder. I love being able to control how richly chocolate something is, by using raw ingredients rather than a pre-mixed packaged good.
Kiva Health Food's organic cacao powder is non-GMO, vegan, raw and gluten-free. So you know it was processed responsibly! And also a low temperature, for minimal mineral loss.
Plus, their cacao comes from a single-origin source (Criollo beans, in Ecuador) and they practice fair trade.
Cacao is healthy (without sugar added to it) because it's high in antioxidants, contains iron, magnesium, fiber, and zinc.
Chocolate bars with high sugar additives and wax additives aren't healthy, but this stuff? A teaspoon in your morning coffee is like a kick in the pants.
You can also use it in your smoothies, oatmeal, tea (especially if you take milk in your tea...yum!).
Because it's not sugary, don't expect it to taste like dessert- like any raw cacao product, it's slightly bitter, very earthy, and coats the tongue. I found the texture to be excellent (very silky smooth), it didn't clump and dissolved quickly in hot liquids, and the flavor was intense....a little bit goes a long way!
(considering how large this bag is, it's going to last me all year!)
And BONUS! They're giving you guys 15% off, in case you want to try this Rolls Royce of the cacao powder world for yourselves! Use the promo code KivaCoco at either the Kiva website or their Amazon listing. (this coupon code expires 8/30)
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
