Diary of a Costume Addict

In an effort to stay on-task with my costuming endeavors (and also in response to requests for costume photos), I'll be chronicling my tasks, failures, successes, and general costumer-ness regularly on "Diary of a Costume Addict" posts.

To kick this segment off, I thought I'd give you a brief history of how I became a Costume Addict:
(No, that's not mine, but I kinda love it)

I have always loved dressing up.
(Yep, that's me)

I wish I could say I was one of those girls in high school who sewed her own outfits and always had costumey bits going on. I wasn't. I wasn't very fond of sewing, or my lack of inherent sewing skill, and only did it once a year or so. Most of my costuming came from cobbling together thrift store finds.

And then, two years ago, I took a corset making class at a local fabric store, and met a dear friend. She (and her friend) have guided me on this newest chapter of sewing (mis)adventures, inspiring me to tackle historical garments.
(The corset that started it all...)

I'll be honest- I've still got a LOT to learn. I can't yet make my own patterns, and my ability to visualize a garment in construction is extremely limited. I get frustrated easily, and sometimes the only thing that calms me down is burying myself in some dupioni silk. But they say practice makes perfect, so I'm gonna keep going. And chronicle it all here:
